Universal Design Home Receives Metal Roof Donation

The UDLL Receives Generous Gift from Classic Metal Roofing Systems

COLUMBUS, OH – April 5, 2010 – The Universal Design Living Laboratory (UDLL), a national demonstration home of the future, has received a metal roof donation from Classic Metal Roofing Systems. The aluminum roof will contribute towards the project team’s efforts to make the home green, energy-efficient and an excellent example of a future home for designers.

"Anytime there are new and intriguing endeavors in terms of housing and projects that introduce new ideas, we try to provide an educational component to builders, architects and property owners,” states President Todd Miller of Classic Metal Roofing Systems. “Our products are cutting edge, so we plan to get involved with projects that are educational and provide beneficial change to homebuilding."

The new metal roof will provide the following benefits to the home:

  • Heat-reflective coatings: The pigment of the coatings will keep the roof cooler in warmer weather.
  • Recycled metal content: The aluminum roof is made up of 95% recycled content, specifically recycled beverage cans.
  • Energy-efficient: A gap between the metal roof shingles and the roof deck provides a thermal break, keeping the home cooler in warmer weather.
  • Enduring: The heat-reflective coating is ensured for 40 years. Some homes from the late 1800s are still using their original metal roofs today.
  • Wind and weather resistant: The metal shingles are linked together, making them difficult to fall off due to weather. This metal roof meets class four hail resistance testing.
